Adult Fitness Swimming Ambassador Keri-anne Payne launches new adult swimming initiative

Better Leisure Centres – the country’s largest provider of public swimming – has welcomed Olympic silver medallist and two-time world 10 km open water swimming champion Keri-anne Payne as its new Ambassador for Adult Fitness Swimming.

The ‘Swim Doctor’ programme offers swimmers the opportunity to attend sessions to improve swim technique or try a new stroke.

The programme launched on 16th June with a Masterclass from Keri-anne at the iconic London Aquatics Centre on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – with similar classes scheduled for Better venues across the UK in the coming months.

Keri-anne, who famously won silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, will use her passion to inspire adults to get into the pool and improve their fitness.

The programme will be available to Better members as part of their membership – while non-members can ‘dip in’ by paying for an individual session.

Keri-anne said, “I'm a passionate advocate of swimming for fitness and wellbeing, it's an exciting and rewarding sport that people of any age and any ability can enjoy and should join in with.

“I know there are a huge range of people who take part for many different reasons, whether it’s to get fitter, complete a personal challenge, or work towards a swimming event. I'm hoping we can encourage even more people to get involved and experience the joy of using swimming as a tool for fitness themselves.”

Better is the customer facing brand of the UK’s leading leisure charitable social enterprise GLL.

National Sport and Aquatics Manager at GLL, Andrew Clark, said “We’re thrilled to have Keri-anne on board as our Ambassador for Adult Fitness Swimming through Swim Doctor.

“At the core of the Better brand is improving affordable access to sport and leisure to improve local communities’ health and wellbeing. Our swimming facilities are crucial to this. Our 25,000 pre-paid swimming members get access to over 140 pools in the UK for less than £1.10 a day.

“In 2016 we had 17 million swimming visits to our facilities and we continue to innovate our programming and products to increase participation to ensure we remain the industry leader.”

“In Keri-anne we have an ambassador who is as passionate as us about Swimming and with her input into our products, our customers will benefit from the knowledge and experience of an elite-level athlete, helping them understand how swimming regularly will benefit their fitness whilst improving their technique and overall efficiency of movement in the water, to ensure they swim Better!.”
