The competition pool was the centre of the swimming action during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games, and now you can swim in it as well! This pool is a full 50 metres in length, that’s the equivalent of four London double decker buses lined up next to each other.
The pool is split into 5 double width lanes, during public fitness swimming these lanes are labelled slow, medium, and fast to accompany every level of swimmer wishing to do lengths. During competitions our lanes are split into 10 single width lanes. Part of the floor in the competition pool is moveable and can be changed in depth from 3 metres to deck level.
The London Aquatics Centre operates Poolpods at the venue to enable people with limited mobility to have independent access to swimming pools. Any swimmer who finds using a pool ladder inappropriate can use the Poolpod simply, easily and quickly.
Poolpods, funded by the London Marathon Trust, were launched at the London Aquatics Centre in March 2014 when it opened to the public.
A platform lift and submersible wheelchairs are available in the main Competition Pool, in the Training Pool and the Diving Pool to facilitate access to every pool and let everyone enjoy a swim at the London Aquatics Centre. A full description of the equipment and products is available here.
