Our training pool is a 50 metre pool, designed to the highest specification, making it an outstanding facility with great flexibility, perfect for all types of sessions and swimming abilities.
The pool is located behind a wall of glass, which looks out at the main pool hall where the competition pool and diving pool are located. Olympic athletes from all over the world trained and warmed up for races in this pool before their events during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The training pool features a unique state of the art movable boom which can be moved in the pool to create two separate and more intimate swimming spaces. This means a 50 metre pool can be enjoyed or two pools of 25m each. With the movable floor the training pool will normally be set with one end at 0.8m deep and the other end at 1.2m deep, however this may change based on the session running. This makes the pool incredibly flexible for multiple purposes at the same time during swimming lessons, for different ability ranges during the family & kids swim time, and when the space is used for private events.
The pool is 21 metres wide and can be split into eight lanes, however for most of the time the pool will be split into two 25m pools, one side offering lane swimming in our Fitness Swimming 25 session, or open for our swim for all sessions and family swim time.
The London Aquatics Centre operates Poolpods at the venue to enable people with limited mobility to have independent access to swimming pools. Any swimmer who finds using a pool ladder inappropriate can use the Poolpod simply, easily and quickly.
Poolpods, funded by the London Marathon Trust, were launched at the London Aquatics Centre in March 2014 when it opened to the public.
A platform lift and submersible wheelchairs are available in the main Competition Pool, in the Training Pool and the Diving Pool to facilitate access to every pool and let everyone enjoy a swim at the London Aquatics Centre. A full description of the equipment and products is available here.
