Are you considering a future at London Aquatics Centre?

Are you considering a career in the leisure centre?! Look no further than the iconic London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic swimming pool, London Aquatics Centre.

Today we step into the shoes of Duty Manager Sarunas Malinauskas, a recent graduate from the University of East London (UEL) where he studied Music Industry Management, who has found his true passion at London Aquatics Centre.

After gaining experience in hospitality and luxury retail, Sarunas joined us at Better, a leading leisure management organisation, in 2018 through the apprenticeship programme to pursue a career in leisure.

Inspired by his mother, who managed a sports school back home for over 20 years, Sarunas has been with Better in various roles, both full-time and part-time, since joining in 2018. Sarunas was drawn to London Aquatics Centre due to its international reputation as one of the worlds best aquatic centres with its state-of-the-art facilities.

“The attraction to London Aquatics Centre has always been there since it is the place for swimming and a state of the art facility. I was slightly bored where I was and after not getting a place in the graduate manager scheme, I looked for another challenge to broaden my experience."

The London Aquatics Centre boasts world-renowned facilities, including a 50m competition pool, a 50m training pool, and a diving pool with platforms at 1m, 3m, 5m, 7.5m, and 10m.

In addition, London Aquatics Centre provides a state-of-the-art gym and a dry diving facility for grassroots and elite athletes.

The venue is also the home of UK diving, hosting Dive London elite club and developing young divers through the Tom Daley Diving Academy.

Over the years, London Aquatics Centre has hosted prestigious events such as the FINA World Diving Series, European Swimming Championships, Arena Games Triathlon, and ITV The Games.

Despite hosting major events, the community remains at the heart of the former Olympic and Paralympic swimming pool.

"I am looking to contribute to and dedicate my time to supporting the service that we provide, to support and learn from colleagues here and to generally learn - leisure can be many things and here we do handle a lot.

“Many people don't realise that the little things we do mean a lot. For a lot of people, the facilities that we offer, the time that we dedicate, the sessions that we put on are really a great benefit for people's physical and mental health.

“I think we can all appreciate that during lockdowns when it was taken away, not being able to go for a swim, go to the gym was affecting us all and it really makes our life much better - that inspires me a lot."

He added: "Grab the opportunities coming your way, don't let someone else take them! GLL is a great company to work for with plenty of support available - if you ask for it."
